Field trips are a great way for students to experience something outside of the classroom that is both educational and enjoyable. In fact, studies show that students who take school trips end up with better grades, and these trips leave lasting, positive effects on their overall educational experience. Why? They improve curiosity and interests outside of the classroom, but still in an academic way.

At Jefferson School of Performing Arts, students can attend live theater performances through field trips offered throughout the year. “For many students, this is their first live theater experience, and the excitement is unmistakable. Our casts and artistic teams love witnessing that sense of discovery, enthusiasm, and joy that comes from students experiencing theatre up close for the very first time,” says Kelly Fouchi, Artistic and Managing Director of Rivertown Theaters.

The theater can accommodate between 265-315 students per performance, depending on grade level. To book a school’s field trip show, teachers are asked to contact the Box Office, at BoxOffice@RivertownTheaters.com or calling (504) 461-9475.

Upcoming Shows

Jefferson School of Performing Arts has three upcoming plays that are available for field trip performance booking:

Madagascar Jr

  • Field trip shows: Thursday, April 16 & Friday, April 17, 9:30am & 11:00am

Cinderella Jr

  • Field trip shows: Thursday, June 11 at 1:00pm & Friday, June 12 at 10:30am

Legally Blonde Jr

  • Field trip shows: Thursday, July 23 at 1:00pm & Friday, July 24 at 10:30am

At these shows, students are able to sit up close to the stage–seeing the performers in a way that is real and relatable. With the young actors often the same age as the students, they can quickly connect with the actors who bring the story to life.

“What we find most rewarding is how focused and engaged these student audiences are. They are attentive, respectful, and fully invested because they are genuinely interested in what’s unfolding before them,” says Fouchi.

Fouchi explains that for many students, this is their first live theater experience. Excitement is not only at a high for students, but the cast and artistic teams of the shows equally enjoy the sense of “discovery, enthusiasm, and joy that comes from students experiencing theatre up close for the very first time.” To learn more about Jefferson School of Perfoming Arts, visit https://www.jeffersonpac.com/.
