Get ready to embrace the holiday spirit! The Children’s Hospital New Orleans Holiday Parade, presented by Feed Your Soul, returns for its third year on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. This festive celebration, recognized as one of the nation’s top 10 holiday parades by USA Today readers, promises even more magic with an expanded route, dazzling floats, and beloved New Orleans traditions.
This 30-float spectacle will light up downtown New Orleans with custom holiday-themed creations, animatronic props, special effects, and intelligent lighting. Families can also expect high-flying helium balloons, marching bands, dancing groups, and, of course, a visit from Santa and his merry cast of characters. Whether you’re lining the streets or tuning in to the live broadcast on WDSU, the parade offers something for everyone.
“We are proud to continue this family tradition that kicks off the holiday season,” said Lucio A. Fragoso, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “It’s a day of joy, gratitude, and celebration while supporting the vital mission of Children’s Hospital, which has served the community for 70 years.”
The parade route begins at the corner of Esplanade Avenue and North Peters Street, weaving through the French Market, Jackson Square, and Oscar Dunn Park, before looping along Canal and Tchoupitoulas Streets. Attendees can soak in the festive atmosphere while enjoying nearby downtown restaurants and attractions. For those seeking a VIP experience, the Sheraton and JW Marriott hotels are hosting exclusive viewing parties, with proceeds supporting Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Miracle Network.
Children’s Hospital patients are also bringing their creativity to life by crafting signature throws. Parade-goers will have the chance to receive custom-made ornaments, each adorned and personalized by a hospital patient.
Barry Kern, president and CEO of Kern Studios, emphasized the community spirit of the event: “The holiday season is magical in New Orleans, and we are thrilled to partner with Children’s Hospital to bring joy and wonder to families.”
For those unable to attend in person, WDSU will air a special two-and-a-half-hour live broadcast beginning at 10:30 a.m., featuring inspiring patient stories and highlighting the hospital’s impact.
With support from Louisiana Feed Your Soul, NewOrleans.com, the French Market Corporation, and other sponsors, this uniquely Louisiana event shines a light on the importance of community, giving, and the holiday spirit. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser added, “This parade not only brings joy but also supports downtown businesses and the hospital’s essential mission.”
