Looking for free, fun, and educational ways to keep your family busy this summer? The New Orleans Public Library has you covered with its 2025 Summer Fun & Reading Challenge, dozens of free programs for all ages, and new additions to its Culture Pass program. Events include storytimes, crafts, games, teen activities, and more at 15 Library locations across the city.
“The Library’s summer programming is a free ticket to adventure, imagination, community, and, of course, fun,” says Shannan Cvitanovic, Executive Director of Friends of the New Orleans Public Library. “Whether you’re a bookworm or just learning to read, whether you’re 10 years old or approaching 100, there truly is something for everyone at the Library this summer.”
From June 1 through July 31, children, teens, and adults can take part in the Summer Fun & Reading Challenge. Everyone who signs up gets a prize just for registering. Read 800 minutes and complete library-themed activities to earn more prizes, including a limited-edition tote bag designed by local artist Sean Clark. Visit summerfun.nolalibrary.org or stop by any Library location to sign up.
The Library has also added two new museum partners to its Culture Pass program, which lets Library cardholders (ages 18+ who live in Orleans Parish) reserve free admission to local museums. New this year:
- Tate, Etienne, and Prevost Interpretive Center (TEP Center): A museum in the Lower 9th Ward that honors the three girls who helped desegregate New Orleans public schools in 1960.
- Historic New Orleans Collection’s French Quarter History Galleries: A museum dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South.
With a total of 14 participating museums, the Culture Pass helps remove financial barriers and gives residents a chance to explore the city’s rich history.
From exciting reading rewards to access to some of the city’s most meaningful museums, the Library’s summer programming is the perfect way to stay engaged, have fun, and make lasting memories. Don’t miss out on this chance to explore, learn, and connect right in your own neighborhood!
