Things to know!

-Keep your kids’ heads and hands inside the streetcar – especially on the St. Charles line – it passes within inches of obstacles such as poles and trees.
-At the Canal Street stop you can catch the ferry to Algiers Point, across the river.
St. Charles Line (line number 4)
The Historic St. Charles Streetcar Line is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world.

There are a ton of great places to eat up and down this street.
Plum St. Snoballs
One of the city’s classic snoball stands, Plum Street opened in 1945 and has kept the crowds lining its namesake corridor ever since. 300 Burdette St., 504.866.7996. Open Sunday thru Friday, 2-7 pm; Saturday, noon-7 pm.
The Cameilla Grill
A landmark diner in the Carrollton section of New Orleans. 626 S Carrollton Ave. Open Sunday thru Thursday, 8 am-midnight; Friday and Saturday, 8 am-2 am.
Audubon Park and Playgrounds
Seated in historic uptown New Orleans Audubon Park is a favorite spot for recreation, picnics or enjoying a beautiful day. 6500 Magazine St. Audubon Park is open daily from 5 am-10 pm.
Danneel Playground
Most popular neighborhood park, located on the streetcar line. 5501 St. Charles Ave. Danneel Playground is open daily from 6 am-10 pm.
Milton H. Latter Memorial Library
This branch offers programs for all ages as well as reading rooms, computers, printers, and wi-fi. Another popular draw are the Friends of New Orleans Public Library’s book sales which take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am-2 pm in the home’s former carriage house. 5120 St. Charles Ave. Open Monday thru Thursday, 10 am-8 pm; Friday and Saturdays, 10 am-5 pm; Sundays, 1-5 pm.
The Fresh Market
Great stop to buy a picnic lunch or get a cold drink to go. 3338 St. Charles Ave. Open Monday thru Sunday, 8 am-9 pm.
Ogden Museum of Southern Art
The largest and most comprehensive collection of Southern art in the world and home to the Center of Southern Craft and Design. 925 Camp St. Open Sunday thru Wednesday, 10 am- 5 pm, Thursdays 10 am-8 pm; Friday and Saturday, 10 am-5 pm. Thursday admission 10 am-5 pm is free to Louisiana Residents courtesy of the Helis Foundation.
Canal Streetcar – City Park/Museum (line number 2)
This line begins at the Mississippi River on Canal Street and follows Canal to Carrollton Avenue where it turns right ending at City Park. The line is air-conditioned – a great option for those super hot days.
The French Market
So fun for little gifts and yummy foods. 1008 N. Peters St. Open daily. Retail Shops 10 am–6 pm. Farmers Market & Flea Market 9 am–6 pm.
Canal St. for the Audubon Aquarium
Pro tip: If you’re going to the aquarium, just off the stop before Canal Street, at Peters Street, to save time and crowding. Aquarium of the Americas, 1 Canal St. Open daily, 10 am-5 pm.
Take the Canal Street Ferry to Algiers Point
Ride the ferry across the Mississippi River and enjoy some of the best view of both banks. Pro tip: Bring cash and exact change. The ferry is $2/person.
Mandina’s
A great Italian Creole restaurant for lunch of dinner. 3800 Canal St. Open Monday thru Thursday, 11 am-9 pm; Friday and Saturday, 11 am-10 pm; Sunday noon-9 pm.
S. Carrollton Avenue
Walk a block to Brocato’s for ice cream.
City Park/New Orleans Museum of Art
Within City Park are abundant opportunities to picnic, fish, enjoy the Botanical Garden, play a round of golf at City Putt, play tennis, or attend a music festival—and much, much more! 1 Palm Drive. City Park is open to the public daily from 30 minutes prior to official sunrise until 30 minutes after official sunset, with exception of special events.
The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) offers innovative experiences for learning and interpretation; and units, inspires, and engages diverse communities and cultures. One Collins C. Diboll Circle. Open Tuesday thru Thursday, 10 am-6 pm; Friday, 10 am-9 pm; Saturday, 10 am-5 pm; Sunday, 11 am-5 pm. Wednesdays are free admission days for Louisiana residents, courtesy of The Helis Foundation.
