Founded in 1727 by the Sisters of the Order of Saint Ursula, Ursuline Academy of New Orleans serves Toddler 2 through 12th grade girls and enjoys the distinction of being both the oldest, continuously-operating school for girls and the oldest Catholic school in the United States. Ursuline's educational approach combines tradition and innovation and is validated by its dedication to the moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social growth of each student.

The Academy offers an extensive curriculum, which includes rigorous academic coursework and incorporates honors, accelerated, and Advanced Placement offerings for students. A comprehensive and diverse curriculum provides every Ursuline student with the opportunity to develop her unique skills and talents. The fine arts program includes theater, drama, choral music, orchestra, piano, dance and a wide variety of visual arts classes. STEM initiatives begin as early as kindergarten, and students are encouraged to explore many academic and career paths throughout their time at Ursuline. Specialty programs, such as entrepreneurship, provide opportunities for students to learn from professional mentors while engaging in course work relevant to real life.

Ursuline is proud to work with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a comprehensive approach to STEM education through activity, project, and problem-based curriculum. Ursuline is the first all-girls school in Louisiana to implement a full K-12 engineering and computer science pathway using PLTW. Ursuline strives to provide our girls with all of the tools needed to compete in an ever-expanding global society that values critical thinking and skills in the STEM areas.

Ursuline also offers students the opportunity to grow outside of the classroom through participation in 11 varsity sports, which include numerous state championships. Ursuline’s large variety of clubs and extracurricular activities are designed to satisfy the needs and interests of any girl, at any age, in the Academy. As part of our 1:1 program, each middle school student is issued an iPad and each high school student is issued a MacBook. Integrating this technology in the classroom helps engage students, offers powerful collaborative and in-class possibilities, and enhances 21st-century skills.

The Academy’s challenging curriculum, inspiring visual and performing arts programs, diverse selection of extracurricular activities, and competitive athletic offerings provide endless opportunities for students to explore and cultivate interests and passions of all kinds. The Ursuline girl may find herself in many roles: scholar, athlete, artist, explorer, leader, writer, mathematician, scientist, thespian, and philanthropist. However, the most important role — the one we hope she will always feel comfortable in — is being herself.
