Jefferson Parish Schools Hosts Second Round of Parent Computer Skills Workshops

January 22, 2021

Free training sessions offered in both English and Spanish

With the increased use of technology to support student learning, Jefferson Parish Schools continues to offer free in-person computer skills workshops for parents in partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce  of Louisiana. Classes will be offered in both English and Spanish and in a socially distant setting.

“We’re committed to providing families with the training and resources necessary to support their child with online learning,” said Dr. James Gray, superintendent for Jefferson Parish Schools. “The pandemic required all of us to rethink how we provide services and accelerated a shift to increased use of technology in schools. These workshops are our way of providing support for families to help achieve our vision, while also benefiting Jefferson Parish as a whole through computer literacy.”

“The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana is proud to continue strengthening this partnership focusing on bridging the digital gap.  The digital literacy classes provide needed assistance for parents struggling to navigate the virtual curriculum in support of their children and also connects them to other services we provide to build capacity and workforce training,” said Mayra Pineda, President and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana.

The computer skills workshops will cover how to use Chromebooks, smartphone integration, Google Classroom, Google Meet, creating a Gmail account and other apps to help students participating in virtual and traditional learning. Computers will be provided by the district for use during the training sessions. To encourage participation, attendees will be entered to win a Chromebook.
