What is the camp’s mission and philosophy?

To teach kids about horses and other farm animals so they understand about animal communication and care. Teach riding basics as desired by the kids or provide safe pony rides.

 

What safety measures are in place?

Helmets, safety talks and drills

 

What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?

Usually 3-1

 

How are staff members screened and trained?

Mostly family and in business for 40 years, I have 55 years experience.  Main “instructors” are CPR trained. Other assistants have attended camp or already work with us. I

 

Is there a daily schedule, and can you provide an example?

It depends on the season.  In winter we feed horses, groom, do other instruction, lessons or pony rides, Lunch, quiet play/game, afternoon usually back to the barn to ride again.  Sometimes crafts.

 

Are there opportunities for free play or downtime?

Yes.

 

How does the camp handle health issues and allergies?

The medical form asks about this and the parent’s handling.  Sometimes we have to wash kids off during (pony dander)

 

Are there opportunities for parents to visit or participate in camp activities?

No not during camp.  This could be inherently dangerous if parents come in and distract riders.  They can book a private lesson where they can see what’s been learned.
