Abeona House Child Discovery Center is a non-profit formed in November 2005 by parents whose children attended one of nearly 200 centers that did not reopen after Katrina. Named after the Roman goddess of children leaving home for the first time, our purpose is to support families through high-quality childcare for their children, a sense of community, and the co-creation of learning opportunities between children, parents, teachers and the larger community.

We opened our original location on Oak Street in September of 2006, and served 30 children.  In December of 2011, we moved to our current home at 3401 Canal Street, and doubled in size, serving 60 families and adding planning periods for teachers, a farm-to-table food program, and greater organizational capacity. Abeona is a childcare center that provides stimulating access to discoveries and resources, in a diverse social atmosphere, with engaged staff centered on supporting your child’s social and emotional development as well as lifelong learning.
