Designed for both school systems and families, the resources support continuous at-home learning during the COVID-19 self-isolation order. It includes guidance for distance education, schedules and communication systems, student services like occupational therapy or counseling, and how to ensure compliance with special education requirements. They are now available on the Department’s COVID-19 web page, as well as on the Students with Disabilities web page.

This distance learning environment brings new challenges in meeting the needs of students who require additional support,” said Jackie Tisdell, co-chair of the Special Education Advisory Panel, in a press release dated March 31. “The resources being provided by the Louisiana Department of Education will greatly improve the ability of schools and families to overcome barriers to learning for long-term success.”

Among the resources is the Family Toolbox: Ways to Support Students with Disabilities During School Closures, which includes tips and resources on organization, accommodations, and accessibility; supplemental websites; and how families without internet connection can utilize text messaging or how to get free internet for 60 days.
