Congregation Coffee Roasters will open its second café this Thursday, July 24, at the corner of Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue—900 Jefferson Ave. The new Uptown location will serve the company’s signature blends, rotating single-origin coffees, and pastries from Ralph Brennan Bakery. Summer hours run Thursday through Monday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with plans to expand hours this fall.
Patrick Brennan, who acquired the coffee company in 2023, has led its rapid expansion alongside head roaster Zoe Underhill. Over the past year, the team roasted more than 28,500 pounds of coffee at their Tchoupitoulas Street roastery and secured 18 new wholesale partnerships. Local clients include Hotel Monteleone, Brennan’s, Junebug, Dorignac’s Food Center, and several Whole Foods locations.
The new café continues Congregation’s mission to bring quality, locally roasted coffee to more corners of the city. Brennan reopened the flagship Algiers Point café last year and plans to launch a third location in the French Quarter later this year.
“Our goal is to expand with intention and never sacrifice on outstanding quality,” says Brennan. “From sourcing the highest quality beans and roasting locally in our Tchoupitoulas roastery, to providing our baristas with ongoing barista training and coffee education, we’re here to create outstanding coffee coupled with quality customer experiences as unique as our home here in New Orleans.”
Guests at the Magazine Street location will be able to purchase bagged coffee, shop branded merchandise, or enjoy popular blends on-site, like:
- High Walk: Congregation’s Signature blend. Deemed “a perfect morning cup,” it’s round and sweet on the palate with some nutty chocolate on the nose and a medium body.
- Gallop: This Espresso blend includes a nutty flavor up front that moves into a milk chocolatey sweetness. Great both as a shot of espresso or with milk.
- Low Walk: Decaf blend. Rich, sweet, and smooth.
- Spots: For those who want a darker, robust, yet complex coffee experience, Spots is the perfect coffee. Warm flavor notes go well with cream and sugar, or just as is, in your favorite mug.
- Tail Walk: Their Coffee and Chicory blend. With roots in New Orleans, “we blend our chicory coffee as a bridge between traditional New Orleans and modern coffee culture.”
- Kerinci, Sumatra: “We love this coffee for its indulgent balance of candy sweetness, warming citrus and spices, and light effervescence.”
Congregation Coffee was founded in 2015 and continues to prioritize community, quality sourcing, and barista education. Underhill, who joined the team in 2018 as a barista, now leads roasting and green coffee buying after rising through the company’s ranks.
