This month, Thrillist compiled The 18 Best City Parks in America. New Orleans City Park is proud to be named one of the 18 “best city parks.”
With its many attractions, events, and open green spaces, City Park’s 1,300 acres is a dream destination for anyone year-round, park officials said in a press release out today.
“We’re thrilled to be named one of America’s Best City Parks,” said Bob Becker, CEO for New Orleans City Park. “We truly love seeing people in the park at our attractions, events, and recreating. We know City Park is a true jewel of the nation and we’re all so lucky the park is in the heart of the city of New Orleans.”
The website singled out Storyland, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, Couturie Forest, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, and City Park’s collection of mature live oaks (the largest collection on the planet).
“Once a spot for dueling Creole gentlemen to settle the score…City Park offers … compelling reasons to actually put down your Sazerac and leave the French Quarter,” says Thrillist.
New Orleans City Park is in great company with other parks such as Forest Park, Balboa Park, Griffith Park, and Fairmount Park.
In its 169th year, City Park continues to push forward with thoughtful progress. Today, a 6-acre expansion of NOMA’s Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden opened. In September, the relocated Louisiana Children’s Museum will also open its doors to the children of the region.
