I’m often filled with nostalgia when I think about the movies I loved as a child. Those stories taught me valuable lessons about friendship, forgiveness, courage, and growing up. Movies play a meaningful role in a child’s life, offering both imagination and important life lessons along the way.

2026 brings an exciting lineup of children’s films. From highly anticipated sequels and live-action adaptations to brand-new characters and original storylines, there’s plenty for families to look forward to. Discover these upcoming releases and what’s to be expected:

Hoppers 

In theaters March 6.

This upcoming Pixar animated adventure follows young Mabel, an animal lover that uses technology to transfer her mind into a robotic, yet lifelike, beaver so she can interact with the animal world. Following themes of friendship, mystery, new perspectives, humor, and heart, and is rated PG. 

The Pout-Pout Fish 

In theaters March 20. 

This gloomy deep-sea fish believes he is destined to spread “dreary wearies” wherever he swims. But as he journeys the ocean and meets colorful sea creatures along the way, he learns he may not be who he thinks he is. The heartwarming story on self-discovery and kindness is rated PG. 

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie 

In theaters April 1.

This animated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie brings Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and the gang on an intergalactic adventure where they face fresh challenges and new additions. Blending colorful animation, humor, and family-friendly action, this movie is rated PG. 

Toy Story 5 

In theaters June 19.

Everyone’s favorite toys are rejoining for a new adventure–when a high-tech challenge threatens playtimes and forces the toys to adapt in a world where digital devices are everywhere. Toy Story 5 is expected to be suitable for most kids and families. 

Minions & Monsters 

In theaters July 1.

From the Despicable Me and Minions franchise, this film is set in 1920s Hollywood where while the Minions attempt to become movie stars, they accidentally summon real monsters and must save the world from their chaos. The humorous yet adventure-driven movie is expected to be for fans of all ages. 

Moana 

In theaters July 10. 

In this reimagined version of the beloved 2016 animated adventure, Moana is taking a live-action turn and plans to bring the story to life with real locations, music, and a celebration of Polynesian culture. It is expected to be suitable for family audiences with parental guidance suggested. 

The Cat in the Hat 

In theaters November 6.

The mischievous Cat brings whimsical chaos to a pair of siblings struggling with a big change in their life in this adaption of the classic Dr. Seuss book. It is expected to be suitable for family audiences with parental guidance suggested. 

The Angry Birds Movie 3 

In theaters December 23. 

Bringing everyone’s favorite feathered heroes back, the threequel shows the birds facing new challenges and chaos in their animated world. It is expected to be suitable for family audiences with parental guidance suggested.
