April Fool’s Day is the perfect excuse for a little harmless, silly fun. Kids are sometimes known for being mischievous and probably already planning their own pranks, so why not stay a few steps ahead and surprise them first? These ideas are simple, safe, and guaranteed to bring laughs—not tears—and give your family something to giggle about all day long.

“Cracked” Screen

Set a cracked-screen image as the wallpaper on a phone or tablet and wait for their reaction.

Brown “E’s”

Tell them you made brownies, but instead hand them a tray of brown paper cutouts shaped like the letter “E.”

Breakfast Dye

Add a few drops of food coloring to their drinks—blue milk or green orange juice is always a funny surprise. You can even sneak a little color into scrambled eggs!

Frozen Cereal

Pour cereal and milk into a bowl the night before and freeze it. In the morning, your kiddo will be confused when their spoon won’t go in!

Bedroom Switcheroo

Swap clothes around in their drawers or place toys in unexpected spots, like the fridge, for a silly surprise.

Googly Eyes Everywhere

Stick googly eyes on items in the fridge—milk, fruit, condiments—so everything “stares” at them when they open the door.

Plastic Wrap Seat

Put plastic wrap under the toilet seat for a harmless surprise!

Tech Mischief

Change the language on a tablet or TV for some confusing fun, or place a small piece of tape over the remote sensor and act puzzled when it won’t work.

Helpful Tips:

  • Keep it lighthearted—only laughs, no tears!
  • Reveal the prank quickly so no one gets frustrated.
  • Make sure everything is safe, especially when food or water is involved.

The best pranks are the ones where kids can laugh then try to prank you back—turning the whole day into a fun, shared memory of laughter.
