April is World Autism Month, and families in the New Orleans area have a meaningful way to celebrate with a little more comfort and a lot more understanding. Chuck E. Cheese now offers Sensory Sensitive Birthdays—celebrations designed for kids who thrive in calmer, lower-stimulation environments.

These parties focus on flexibility. Families can choose what works best for their child, from lowering noise and lighting to deciding if Chuck E. appears or if “Happy Birthday” is sung. Small changes can make a big difference for kids who feel overwhelmed in traditional party settings.

Chuck E. Cheese partners with Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) to guide these efforts and create a more inclusive environment for neurodivergent children and their families.

In addition to private parties, Chuck E. Cheese also hosts Sensory Sensitive Sundays, offering a quieter and more comfortable environment for families. Families can attend upcoming Sensory Sensitive Sundays on April 12 at select locations and April 26 at all corporate locations, both from 9 to 11 a.m.

The entire experience reflects these thoughtful changes. Game rooms run at a lower volume and reduced flashing lights to create a more comfortable space to play. Team members train to better support children with sensory sensitivities, helping families feel welcome and understood from the moment they walk in. Even the dining experience is more relaxed, giving families a quieter place to take a break and enjoy food together.

It’s a simple idea, but an important one—giving every child the chance to celebrate in a way that feels right for them. For more information, visit chuckecheese.com/metairie-la/sensory-sensitive-sundays/
