Yup, you read that right.   A Chinese kindergarten principal thought it was a good idea a pole dancer perform on the first day of school for a bunch of 3–5  year-olds and their parents.

Here is one parent’s video of the performance.

Journalist Michael Standaert, whose children attend Xinshahui Kindergarten, tweeted that when his wife called to complain, principal Lai Rong said it  was “international and good exercise” before hanging up the phone. Later, Rong explained in a letter it was was meant to “lighten up” the opening day of kindergarten and later issued an apology, agreeing it may not have a great idea, after-all. The Kindergarten principal was, thankfully, fired.

Parents bringing their littles to the first day of school in Shenzhen were, to put it mildly– shocked.  Unsurprisingly, some parents immediately asked to withdraw their wee ones from the school after seeing this performance, saying the school ‘wasn’t a good fit’ for their kids. We have to agree.
