A ribbon-cutting ceremony recently marked a major milestone for local nonprofit organization KID smART with the opening of the KID smART Center for Arts & Education—a dedicated space focused on arts education for students, educators, and community members across New Orleans.
The new center represents a significant expansion of the organization’s reach, allowing KID smART to grow its programming by more than 250 percent while creating new jobs and increasing access to high-quality arts education in the city.
Location & Accessibility
Located at 2533 Columbus St. in the historic Bayou Roads neighborhood, the Center immediately makes an impression with a colorful mural at its entrance, created by local organization Eternal Seeds. Inside, the space features multiple visual arts studios, a dance and movement studio, a podcasting studio, a performing arts studio, and flexible training areas, all designed to support an expanded range of creative programming.
Accessibility was a central focus in the Center’s design. Adaptable furniture, elevators, and widened entryways ensure that every visitor has equal access to engaging, joyful learning experiences.
A Future of Opportunity
“To fully realize the Center’s potential and provide consistent, high-impact arts education for our community, we invite all of our supporters to help us via spreading the good news of our Center’s opening, supporting any of our ongoing and future fundraising efforts, and partnering with us to ensure our amazing programs remain vibrant and accessible for years to come,” notes Krystal Hardy Allen, Board Chair of KID smART.
While opening the Center is a major achievement, the heart of the organization’s mission lies in the programming that will take place within its walls. KID smART envisions the space as a hub for teaching and serving every generation at every stage of life.
