Top 5 Reasons to Go to the New Orleans Book Festival!

The New Orleans Book Festival on November 6 & 7 is a celebration of books for readers of all ages. The free two-day festival includes a family-friendly evening performance and a full day of programming for book lovers ranging from new readers to literary scholars. Here’s the top 5 reasons you should go:

  1.  It’s Free! The Book Fest is free and open to the public, just show up and you’re sure to have a great time!  And on Saturday, the New Orleans Museum of Art will be offering festival-goers half price admission for the day. 
  2. The Authors! The spectacular lineup of authors includes Lorenzo Carcaterra, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Sleepers, Gangster, and Midnight Angels; Sherrilyn Kenyonformer, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Dark Hunter series; Lisa McMann, the New York Times bestselling author of the middle grade dystopian fantasy series The Unwanteds, the YA paranormal Wake trilogy, and several other books for kids and teens; and former Tulane University President Scott Cowen, author of “The Inevitable City: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, and 10 Principles of Crisis Leadership.”
  3. There’s Something for Everyone! Whether you’re just learning to read or are a serious literary scholar, there’s tons for you to enjoy at the Book Fest. And in addition to the books and stories, there are plenty of activities to enjoy! 
  4. The Music! Friday night before the festival will feature a performance by Young Audiences. Bring blankets and picnic baskets for an evening of music and dance under the stars!
  5. The Books! Thanks to the Book Festival’s many partners, all kids who come are sure to leave with plenty of free books! The Book Festival also features a book store and an area for authors to sign their books. 

The festival begins with Twinkle Twinkle, a Friday night musical performance by Young Audiences from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the newly renovated Latter Branch Library at 5120 St Charles Ave. The daytime festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at New Orleans City Park will feature readings, panel discussions, and an activity area for kids.Thanks to the festivals special partners, every child who attends the festival will receive free books!
