As the government shutdown continues, New Orleans businesses, and residents, are stepping up to help those government workers in need. Here are businesses that are helping. Our suggestion: support these businesses by going to them, and if a furloughed worker is there, chip in what you can!
Here are some businesses in and around New Orleans that are doing what they can;
524 Jefferson Ave. New Orleans
Keeping pets safe – It’s a bummer when your job is on “paws” – CCV is offering a free month of flea and heartworm preventative for all furloughed employee’s pets! Just show our front desk staff your government ID. New clients accepted – if you are a new client email shannon@crescentcityvet.co
There are 13 locations in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida, with three locations in New Orleans, 315 S. Broad St., 200 Magazine St., and 1005 Canal St. and they are all offering free meals to furloughed Federal employees. We think their instagram post speaks volumes-them AND about New Orleans residents!
Top Knot Beauty Hair Salon
At 3225 Metairie Road, the salon and its stylists are offering free haircuts to federal workers. Jennifer Delage, owner of the salon, says they hope to offer more than just a cut, but support as well.
Louisiana Children’s Museum
420 Julia Street, New Orleans
The Louisiana Children’s Museum is offering free, general admission for up to 4 people (3 family members plus the government employee) to furloughed federal workers and their families during the partial government shutdown.
**Please note, this is valid for regular LCM admission only and does not include admission to special ticketed events.** Federal government workers must show a valid federal employee ID at check-in.
NOLA Restaruant
534 St. Louis St., French Quarter
They ‘re offering free food to furloughed workers starting Jan. 28th. Specifically, fried chicken sandwiches and gumbo.
10701 Willow Dr., New Orleans
This is from their Facebook Post on Jan. 23rd: This weekend, ALL FURLOUGHED FEDERAL WORKERS will get in free with their immediate families, and their children will receive one free horse ride and some feed for our animals. (Must have federal id card). We are open from 10-3 and the weather is looking great! Come visit all of our farm animals and learn some fun facts about sustainable ways to grow food. Regular admission is $6 per person, 2 and under are free. We are a 501C3 non profit teaching farm. We also have a general store where we sell raw honey, homemade hot sauce, t-shirts, and animal feed. See you at the farm!
