Can you believe August is already here? We have done our homework and put together our 15 favorite events happening around the New Orleans area for you.
August 3: The Abita Brewing Company hosts the Northshore Food Truck Round-Up and Food Drive in the Beer Garden. Their Tap Room will offer ample selections of cold brews to choose from, as well as Abita craft sodas. Enjoy outdoor games and live music by Casey Saba Music in the courtyard. The Food Trucks include: Sweet Daddy’s BBQ–Covington, The Quesadilla Company, NOLA mia Food Truck, Frytastic, and Rolling Cones Ice Cream. The Abita Brewing Company will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items to help restock the shelves of the Northshore Food Bank. All ages welcome. The beer garden and patio are dog-friendly. Free admission. 5:30-8:30 pm.
August 3-5: Satchmo SummerFest – Presented by Chevron, this premier American festival dedicated to the life, legacy, and music of New Orleans’ native son, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. The festival takes place at the Jazz Museum at the Mint. Enjoy traditional jazz, live music, and delicious festival foods. Free entry to the festival. 11 am-9 pm each day.
August 4: Check out First Saturdays on Magazine Street! Businesses offer special sales, in-store activities, refreshments, and more. Find specials and who’s participating here.
August 4: Sport your white linen and support the CAC on the coolest night of the year – The Hancock Whitney White Linen Night! Begin your evening at the Julia Street Block Party with art openings at more than 18 Arts District New Orleans galleries and museums, cocktails and cuisine from 25 local restaurants, and live music. Proceeds from Food and Beverage Sales benefit the Contemporary Arts Center. 5:30 pm-midnight.
August 10-11: Join the Saenger Theatre as they host MJ Live, the #1 Michael Jackson Tribute in the country! Experience the excitement and THRILLS of Michael Jackson. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com. Showtime at 8 pm.
August 11: The New Orleans Botanical Garden hosts plant sales with a wide variety of plants including annuals, perennials, roses, gingers, edibles, succulents, and native plants for sale to the public. Admission to the plant sale is free. The August Plant Sale takes place at the Pelican Greenhouse from 9 am-noon.
August 17: Saints Football is back for some preseason football fun. Join the New Orleans Saints and they take on the Arizona Cardinals at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 7 pm. Purchase tickets here.
August 19: Now in its 13th season, Sunday Swing at the National WWII Museum is a popular summer program featuring local swing bands and dance instructors. Bring your dancing shoes to BB’s Stage Door Canteen! Tickets are $10/person ($5 for Museum Members) and can be purchased at the door. 1:30-4:30 pm.
August 21: Join NORD as they celebrate National Seniors Day with special guest speakers, musical and dance performances, information tables from our sponsors and partners. Free and open to adults age 55+. 9 am-2 pm.
August 22: The Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular presents the original music of Pink Floyd like you’ve never seen before! Experience all of your favorite hits along with deep tracks accompanied by the iconic psychedelic images and visuals that are the band’s hallmark. Driven by cutting-edge effects, full-color lasers, Hi-Def multi-screen video projection, concert quality sound and lighting effects, audiences are surrounded in an array of visual displays, choreographed to the original Pink Floyd master recordings. The perfect show for classic rock fans young and old, The Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular combines the music you’ve loved for years with today’s most advanced entertainment technology to create a rich, lush, sensory experience not to be missed! August 25: The Louisiana Children’s Museum will open its big blue doors for its annual CHAIRish the Children auction and gala. This year will be LCM’s last CHAIRish the Children on Julia Street, so, appropriately, the theme for this year is “Thanks for the Memories.” Don the museum’s colors of red, blue, and yellow and reminisce about the nearly 32 years of making happy memories on Julia Street with an evening of fine food and spirits, exclusive auction packages, entertainment from the Jenn Howard Band, a complimentary photo booth, and more! August 25: Come Celebrate the South! The Ogden Museum will be celebrating their 15th Anniversary on from 10 am-5 pm. Join the celebration filled with a day of art, food, music, crafts and more! This event is free and fun for the whole family.

August 30: Join Tulane for their home opener against the ACC’s Wake Forest. Kick-off time will is at 7 pm at Yulman Stadium. Purchase tickets here.
