St. Therese Academy opened its doors in 2019, under the direction of the Department of Catholic Education and Faith Formation. St. Therese is a place for exceptional learners to thrive both academically and socially. Furthermore, the school offers a foundation based upon the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The school is under the current leadership of Dr. Melissa A. Roussel, Head of School; Mrs. Laura DeLaneuvill, Head of Student Services; and Ms. Olivia Bullard, Dean of Academics and Admissions. The school services students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Academically, St. Therese is a traditional school. Dr. Roussel states, “We are a normal school that services exceptional students.” In this she continues to explain that the school offers a home to students with exceptional needs through specialized programming and smaller class sizes. “Our goal,” Dr. Roussel states, “is to make sure each child comes to school and is happy, healthy and loved, but beyond that we work to make sure they learn the skills to be successful both at school and in life post secondary education.” The teachers at St. Therese are able to work with students in small groups and an almost one-to-one setting to help break barriers and achieve at their highest potential.
In the coming years, St. Therese Academy is working to expand the offerings in their high school to best meet the needs of their students through rich industry-based instruction, community partnership and goal-oriented education. “Our phenomenal staff is willing to take any vision and work to achieve the goal in order to best serve our students,” Dr. Roussel states. “Beyond that, however, our faculty and staff have answered the Call to work with our exceptional students and bless them each and every day.”
